affectionateの意味・語源・覚え方

affectionateの意味は「愛情のこもった」です。

affectionateの語源は、af (ad ; to ; 〜の方向へ) + fect (make , do ; 作用する・する) + -ate (〜するような)です。

語源 fect (make, do)は、defect (欠陥) = de (down ; 下に) + fect (make, do) = 作り損ねたもの、から連想できます

affectionateの覚え方は、「心に(af)作用する(fect)ような(-ate) = 愛情のこもった」というイメージで覚えましょう。
